Summer Harvest by John Kelley
July 22nd, 20098″x8″ Oil on Raymar Panel
We have pulled these out of the garden this week. This painting is not yet finished. I thought it was but on further review I believe I am going to make some compositional changes. It’s funny how a painting can look good to you and then after you get away from it for awhile you come back and wonder, ‘What was I thinking?’. I’m going to try this one again and I also may get a better photo this time.
“Apricots” by John Kelley
July 22nd, 20096″x6″, Oil Painting on Raymar Canvas Panel
Apricots are not artist friendly but they do taste good. These little rascals have a soft fuzz on them that absorbs and diffuses the light. So there are no dramatic highlights to help define the shape and most of the edges are soft. I don’t feel this little study was very successful but I think I learned enough to give it another shot.

6″ x 6″ Oil Painting on Raymar Panel
This paintings original title was “When He Came Back From Sea She Sang Him A Song”. I like the original title best but it doesn’t fit well in listings. This painting is made up of a combination of items that my children have broken over the years. There were all sitting on a shelf up out of the reach of small hands and I thought it would make a nice little painting.

October 6th, 2008Over the years orange slices have been one of my favorite things to add as a point of interest in larger still life paintings. They provide deep colors and great contrast. In this painting they become the focal point rather than just a point of interest.
