White Roses

Painting is hard work. This little guy took almost an entire day. They don’t normally take that long but I just kept getting too much contrast between the lights and darks within the roses. If I had simply thought through the process and focused more on squinting and comparing I would have finished the painting quicker. The problem was that I was “thinking” value change but I was “seeing” color change. Once I painted what I “saw” it all came together!

Slow Week

I have a show here in town at the end of the week so it is doubtful much painting will get done. I’ll have to put on my “framer” hat and get things ready for display. Since the paintings I did last week are all going to the show they will not be available for sale but I will post the images once I get them photographed. Orange Slices

Over the years orange slices have been one of my favorite things to add as a point of interest in larger still life paintings. They provide deep colors and great contrast. In this painting they become the focal point rather than just a point of interest.

The Paintings of The Week

I’m finding it much easier to do a painting every day than it is to post a painting everyday. So it may seem that I haven’t been working but here is the proof that I have. Most of these paintings will be reserved for my two upcoming shows.
